As "Working from home" has become a longer-term reality, "a new normal" for our company's employees, I want to talk about small tips that make our work done effectively.

Unlike usual, working from home gives us a lot of benefits coming along with certain challenges. So how to stay motivated and get your work done productively? To be honest, I found it challenged and it took me a while to get along with the new style of working. When you are on your own don't have a boss that you are accountable to, it is easy to get distracted and even end up getting a lower performance. So how to remain productive when working remotely?

1. Feel blessed

Coronavirus is having a serious impact on the global economy. Many people lost their job. Many businesses shut down. But luckily we're working in the IT industry when more than 90% of our work could be done without going to the office.

Of course, things can get worse and we don't know what's going next. But for now, we should feel blessed and privileged for this opportunity. Our job is to take advantage of it. Don't miss this chance to broaden our knowledge, develop our IT skills as well as grow the company's business.

2. Have a routine

I think a lot of people are struggling to decide which time to wake up in the morning or which time to finish their work. There might have people who wake up late and finish late. But it seems not to be an effective way to keep a good work-life balance.

Do whatever you need to do to get your day started the right way. Set yourself up for a very productive day. Setting your alarm clock, wake up, start, and finish working at a fixed time every day helps you to program yourself with a routine. This routine will push you every day even when you are tired and demotivated.

Get yourself into a good routine and be consistent with it!

3. Have a to-do-list

It's would be a mess if we don't have a to-do-list. But here I recommend 2 of them: One for work task and one for personal purposes.

It's too easy to be distracted at home by your family members, your personal needs, ... So it's best to only focus on one thing at a time. Prioritizing is the most important thing. By having these to-do-list, you can make it much easier and less stressful to get your work done smoothly.

4. Create your spot

Many people would like to go to a coffee shop to work or study rather than being at home. Because they found it more productive by getting outside of their home, their comfortable environment.

But going out is never a good choice at this time. So better create a new work zone at home. No big deal! It's all about just finding an area that you feel like your little office. When you walk into that space, you subconsciously know you are turning on for work right now. Make sure it's not your bedroom which is a place just meant for resting and sleeping.

After work time, clock out and get back to your casual life. Don't get your work drag you down. Make sure you successfully separate your work zone from your normal living zone.

5. Connect with others face to face

It is very important to communicate with team members or your co-workers. Nobody wants to just sit 8-9 hours a day not even saying a word. Having an online meeting not just making your work done but helping you feel like you are in your office and having people working around you.

Make sure you turn on your camera while having an online meeting. Show everyone your smile, your positive energy. It brings you and everyone motivation for a long workday.

6. Take breaks

It's like hitting the pause button. Even if you just step away for 5 minutes, it refreshes you, and then you can get back with a clearer head.

And never get into a trap of long breaks. It is very easy to sit around watching youtube or just not get work done when you have too much free time.

It's perfect to have a break of 5-10 minutes every hour.

Conclusion

I hope the tips above do help you boost your productivity. In the end, the coronavirus will be over and life will get back to normal. But until then, stay at home! Stay disciplined, organized, and motivated!
